I could hear the shrieking of the tomes even after the stone door had been sealed. The attack came out of nowhere, they just appeared and started killing. Most of the adults were fighting while we were sent into the tunnels to escape.
We followed the dark passage into the mountain until we came upon a junction. While Ed and Nyssa argued over which path would be safest, we heard an explosion from behind us. They breached the tunnel. The sound of footsteps and shouting started getting closer and louder. They were almost on us, so I ran. I was afraid of what would happen if I was caught because I remember the stories mom and dad told me about outsiders. They’re primitive, hostile, and will hurt us if given the chance. I ran through the maze of tunnels, unsure of where I would end up. Some of the tunnels were supposed to lead to other copmpounds, I would be safe there, if I could find the right tunnel.
I saw light peaking through a crack in the wall, an exit must be hidden there. I pressed my hand against the enchanted stone, and as it opened, I realized there was no compound here. I tried to go back, to follow another path, but the attackers were too close behind me. I sealed the door to buy some time to hide. It wont open for them, but they can blow it up like the last one. Further into the forest I found a hollow log, so I crawled into it and pulled some fallen leaves over the opening. I waited for what felt like forever, but heard no explosion, no shouting. Maybe they forgot about me. Tears ran down my face as I processed everything that just happened. My family, my friends, and my home are all gone, I’m a alone. As I started crying, I heard leaves rustling nearby.
